Paint & Paper Laboratories The Paint & Paper Laboratory supports the development, manufacture, sale and use of mineral and chemical additives used in paper, paints and coatings. These include the Company’s clay, pyrophyllite and wollastonite fillers, in addition to its dispersants, enzymes, thixotropes, drier accelerators and corrosion inhibitors.
The Paint Lab has Cowles-type dissolvers for preparing paints and several pieces of test equipment for evaluation of finished coatings. This equipment includes Brookfield KU 1+ viscometer, Brookfield DV-II + Pro viscometer, Byk Micro-TRI- gloss meter, Technidyne Micro S5M Brightimeter and L a b color tester, Gardiner circular dry time recorders, P.N. Gardiner washability tester, Q-Lab Corporation Q-Fog CCT1100 Corrosion Tester. This equipment is also used to evaluate possible new products and to investigate new uses for existing products. The Paint Laboratory has a controlled humidity and temperature room that conform to TAPPI and ASTM standards, as well as access to the R&D Division mineral characterization capabilities. This includes chemical and XRD mineralogical analysis and particle size distribution by SediGraph 5100. |
