R.T. Vanderbilt Company supplies a variety of chemicals and minerals that assist the pesticide formulator.
Vanderbilt Report: Crop Protection Pesticide FormulationsNo. 921 Presentation: An Introduction to Suspension ConcentratesSuspension / Thickener Systems VEEGUM® / VAN GEL® / VANATURAL® / VANZAN® VEEGUM and VAN GEL magnesium aluminum silicate products and VANATURAL bentonite clay products are naturally occurring smectite clays used to stabilize suspension and emulsion concentrates and to control the rheology of a wide range of products. Bentonite and montmorillonite-type clays, which would include smectite clays, have approvals by the US Environmental Protection Agency as inerts in agricultural pesticide formulas as listed in 40 CFR 180.910, "Inert ingredients used pre- and post-harvest; exemptions from the requirement of a tolerance." VAN GEL B GranulesThe standard economical grade for most suspensions. VAN GEL ESThe most electrolyte tollerant grade. VEEGUMThe standard grade for a wide range of applications. VEEGUM CERSmectite clay/CMC blend; high efficiency suspension stabilizer. VANATURALFast hydrating bentonite clay. VANATURAL XGBRapid hydrating bentonite/xanthan gum blend; pseudoplastic suspension stabilizer. Additional grades are available to match formulation requirements. Brochure: VEEGUM® / VAN GEL® BrochureVANZAN xanthan gum is also a widely used suspension stabilizer, emulsion stabilizer and rheology control agent for aqueous systems. Xanthan Gum is an approved inert on the EPA list. VANZANA general purpose grade suitable for most agricultural applications. VANZAN DA surface-treated grade which provides easy dispersion with rapid viscosity development, without the formation of lumps or "fish eyes". Brochure: VANZAN® BrochureDispersants DARVAN® DARVAN dispersing agents assist in the dispersing of solid actives as well as carriers. The active ingredients in DARVAN 1 Spray Dried, DARVAN 670 and DARVAN 2 are listed by EPA on the inerts list. DARVAN 1 Spray DriedSodium salts of polymerized alkyl naphthalene sulfonic acid. DARVAN 670Sodium salts of polymerized alkyl naphthalene sulfonic acid. DARVAN 2Sodium lignosulfonate. Technical Data: DARVAN® Dispersing AgentsCarriers / Dilutents CONTINENTAL® Clay / PYRAX® CONTINENTAL Clay kaolin and PYRAX pyrophyllite are used as carriers and dry diluents in agricultural and pesticide formulas. Both mineral types are listed on the EPA inerts list. Kaolin Clay - CONTINENTAL CLAY A very fine particle size kaolin for use in wettable powders and granules. Pyrophyllite - PYRAX ABBPryophyllite for use in agricultural dusts. Its natural pH makes it especially suitable for use with actives that exhibit instability in either acidic or alkline conditions. |
